What seems like just yesterday, but in actuality 1979, Barry J. Hobin & Associates Architects Inc. was born with Barry and only one other employee, Architect Gord Lorimer. The company has now grown to a staff of almost 40, and has since distinguished itself as an award-winning architectural firm dedicated to creating contextual and innovative designs. Rebranded as Hobin Architecture in 2016, the last four decades have been committed to creating buildings and places that strengthen Ottawa’s neighbourhoods, enhancing our lives and making our city more beautiful.
On Thursday, May 9th, our team proudly celebrated the last 40 years of projects with an event hosted at The Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards – perfectly apropos hosting in a building that our team completed just a short time ago. The new Bayview Yards (formerly a heritage-designated city works building from 1941) is now a source of community pride emphasizing Ottawa’s position as a technology hub, and centre of innovation and economic development.

Our team wanted an opportunity to showcase our core values to our guests – which was presented in the form of a video (seen above and produced by Chris Mullington of TV Factory) featuring past projects and interviews from a number of our staff touching on the fundamental reasons why it all just… works! The wealth of knowledge, strengths and talents that fill our office continues to inspire us as we collaborate on new projects.

When we look back at how the company has grown, we can proudly attest to the relationships we’ve built that have helped us grow, and continue to be successful. We want to thank all our clients and colleagues who attended on May 9th to help us celebrate our milestone anniversary. And a special thank you to the Ottawa Mission Food Services Program for catering, as well as entertainers, The PepTides and Lady Rouge for performing.
